Pierce County Multi-Purpose Center and Gymnasium

This complete project included a new library, the rehabilitation the historic NFC Building, and the renovation/expansion of the multi-purpose center and gymnasium.  All three portions of the project were built using a combination of Department of Corrections inmate labor crews and subcontractors for major or specialized disciplines.

The 9,000 sq. ft. gymnasium was completely gutted.  Renovation work included new gym floors, new gym equipment, new ceiling/insulation, refinished bleachers, and a new HVAC system.  The exterior metal siding was replaced with brick veneer and stucco to coordinate with the new Library and renovated NFC Building.

An approximate 3,500 sq. ft. addition was also included to provide space for a new commercial kitchen, new restrooms, a lobby, additional storage, a covered patio and covered porch with new monumental steps leading into the brick-paved courtyard which is surrounded by a wrought-iron fence and connects all three structures.  This courtyard provides a casual outdoor setting for a multipurpose community space.

This project was a joint financial effort between Pierce County, the United States Department of Agriculture, the State Library Board and the GA Department of Corrections.
