VSU Renovation of Barrow Hall and Central Warehouse
Barrow Hall and Central Warehouse were constructed in the 1950s on the Valdosta campus of Emory University, now known as Valdosta State University’s North Campus.
Barrow Hall, which was once a dormitory, had been marginally renovated over the years to accommodate the basic needs of the AFROTC program. In order to continue to adequately accommodate this growing ROTC Detachment, currently the largest in the State, the building was in need of a major renovation of all interior spaces and replacement of all systems.
In addition, Central Warehouse, originally a natatorium, most recently used for storage, was re-purposed and renovated to support this growing program.
McCall worked with VSU, Board of Regents, and VSU ROTC personnel to design a renovation project that would transform both facilities into an accessible new AFROTC Headquarters while maintaining the historic nature of the facilities. The renovated facilities include new classroom space, offices, uniform storage, a pilot simulator room, a major-specific student union, new fitness center, lounge space, study rooms and various other support spaces.
