Pine Grove Elementary School
This new elementary school includes 52 classrooms, a gymnasium, a cafeteria and a media center.
The school was designed for maximum resource-efficiency and minimal operational cost. Methods for energy-efficiency include its super-insulated envelope to minimize heating and cooling loads, the use of day-lighting and day-lighting sensors. PGES’ interior spaces include a color scheme to facilitate wayfinding and wing identification. This technique is particularly important given the young ages of the student population.
McCall Architecture provided interior design services and furniture, fixtures and equipment design/coordination/procurement assistance for the school’s media center which was included in the general contract. As part of the procurement, we wrote the bid documents for the FF&E, reviewed the submittals and helped the client make selections for finishes and fabrics.
This Project was awarded the American School & University Magazine’s Architectural Portfolio Award for Outstanding Designs for Elementary Schools, 2010.
