SGMC Parking Deck and Helipad

This project was a 243,000 sf, five level, cast-in-place parking deck, which connects to the existing main hospital through a new glassed bridge connection and new hospital entrance lobby. The deck added 735 new parking spaces to the hospital to serve visitors, patients, and hospital staff, along with the addition of a new main hospital security office.

For the highest and best use of the hospital’s limited property, the parking deck was placed on top of an existing storm water detention pond. Included in our work was the expansion of the detention pond to solve many of the hospitals existing storm water issues. The McCall design team completed studies of hospital staffing, property utilization, future expansion needs, existing and future parking needs, campus traffic and vehicular access, and an entire hospital campus and surrounding neighborhood hydrology study in order to determine the best overall design for the new hospital parking deck facilities.

After completion of the parking deck, the overall project was expanded to include a new hospital emergency helipad. We analyzed for best location and property utilization in the location of the new helipad, taking into account all flight and clearance requirements. We completed the helipad design, construction administration, all FAA applications and all required inspections for the approval and opening of the helipad.
